Me: What is the best advice you can give to someone who started out to publish their books?

Samantha: First and foremost, establish your social media presence. I came into this journey not realizing the power of promotion, so when I published my first book, I had done nothing in terms of promoting it. Start promoting as soon as you start writing to get people excited. The second thing I found most valuable was building strong connections with other authors, PAs, bookstagrammers, etc. That network helps in terms of advice, post-sharing, and just overall support - just make sure that you are doing it for them in return!

Me: What was your dream job when you were younger?

Samantha: I’ve loved music pretty much since birth, so I always wanted to be a rockstar. Unfortunately, after a couple disastrous attempts to learn an instrument and sing in the chorus, we realized that I was given nothing in the way of musical ability. So, I accepted my role as a superfan!! My other big love was books and reading. I was painfully shy as a child, so my friends were usually the characters in the books I was reading. I would then imagine myself in the different stories I was reading. Now, I’ve been able to combine my two loves and write romance novels about sexy rockstars!!

Me: What do you hope your reader takes away from your new release?

Samantha: The healing power of love. Without giving away too much of the story, Hannah and Mikael both had to overcome wounds caused by people who were supposed to love them.

Me: Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?

Samantha: MIkael Alfredsson, the male lead in Pet Shop Passion is very special to me. Mikael is inspired by my favorite musician, rock bass player Marten Andersson. I was even lucky enough this past September to meet Marten. I found him to be a kind and humble man, not to mention an incredibly talented musician!

Me: How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

Samantha: I honestly don’t. Other than my husband, nobody in my family even acknowledges the fact that I’ve written and published books, so I’ve never given myself permission to celebrate. I’m choosing to answer this one to tell others not to deprive yourself of those celebrations. Even when I published my very first novel, there was no celebration of any kind, and I definitely regret that.

Me: What are you most excited for your next book?

Samantha: Silent Angel will be quite a bit different than my first three. There is a lot more tragedy to go along with the normal romance formula and continues to explore the concept of what love can overcome. I’ve already had a few occasions where I had to stop writing a scene to compose myself and wipe away some tears. Despite that, I absolutely love the story and can’t wait to share it.
